  8. PassMark PerformanceTest is a software tool that
  9. allows everybody to quickly assess the performance
  10. of his or her computer and compare it to a number
  11. of standard 'baseline' computer systems.

  15. Installation
  16. ============
  17. 1) Uninstall any previous version of PerformanceTest
  18. 2) Run (double click on) the petst.exe file
  19. 3) Follow the prompts
  20.  
  21. UnInstallation
  22. ==============
  23. 1) Launch the Windows Control Panel.
  24. 2) Uninstall via the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.

  28. Windows 98, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home, and XP Professional
  29. (Windows 95 and NT are not supported)
  30. (Windows 98 requires Internet Explorer V5.0 or higher)
  31. 800 x 600 pixel display
  32. DirectX 8.0 or higher
  33. 32MB RAM
  34. 2MB of free hard disk space
  35. (plus additional hard disk space to run the Disk test)

  48. Known issues
  49. ============
  50. Disk test, Windows 98.
  51. If the correct chipset device drivers have not been
  52. installed and DMA support is not enabled for the disk,
  53. then the system may appear to freeze for the duration
  54. of the disk test. Please consult your hard disk
  55. manufacturer for instructions regarding the correct
  56. DMA settings for your drive.

  58. 3D Test, Legacy video cards, Windows 98.
  59. Older video adapters may behave erratically during
  60. the 3D test or may lockup the system if the video
  61. drivers do not fully support DirectX. All modern
  62. cards with DirectX compliant drivers should function
  63. properly
  64.  
  65. 3D Test, NVIDIA video cards, Windows XP, PC-Anywhere.
  66. When running Windows XP with PC-Anywhere 10.5 installed
  67. on an NVIDIA chipset based video card, pcAnywhere must
  68. be placed into "Compatibility" mode for the 3D tests
  69. to function. This is a known compatibility issue
  70. that will be addressed in the next release of
  71. pcAnywhere. Updating to the latest video drivers on
  72. the system may remove the need to manually change
  73. the pcAnywhere settings
  74.  
  75. 3D Test, Software Emulation option.
  76. The software emulation option in the advanced 3D test
  77. will only function when the full version of the DirectX
  78. SDK (software development kit) is installed.

  80. Advanced CD & Disk test.
  81. When using the cached testing options, benchmark results
  82. can vary dramatically between the first test run and
  83. subsequent test runs. This is due to the operation of the
  84. Windows cache and is normal behaviour.
